Whitbread revival Porter

Makes 10 gallons

Ingredients: (for 5 gallons)

  • 7.5 lbs of Pale 2row
  • 1.6 lbs of Brown Malt (See earlier instructions)
  • 2 oz of Chocolate malt
  • 2 oz of Black Patent
  • 1.6 oz East Kent Goldings hops for 60 minutes
  • .6 oz Stryrian Goldings hops (Dry hop)
  • Wyeast Whitbread Ale yeast
  • Procedure:

    70 minute mash at 153F.

    Specifics: O.G.: 1.052 F.G.: 1.013

    Roger Protz describes the commercial version as a superb beer, with a peppery Goldings aroma and hints of coffee and chocolate, massive dark malt in the mouth and a long, dry finish with hops, malt and dark, black currant fruit.
